Explain how information systems and business processes differ. Give an example, other than one in this text, of a business process that uses two or more information systems. Information systems are those through which data flows. Training, knowledge sharing, storing data and analysing are all examples of information systems. However, business processes are the method or path of work flow. This includes the activities and tasks executed in order to achieve results. For example, production line.
The business processs use information systems . The latter strengthens the former. Helps in data analytics, forecasting and ensuring the business process flow is maintained. For example, having a data base of previous data so that it can be referred to as and when required. Also, an information system helps collect all the information and store it at one place. Making data more readily accessible and imroving reliability,
As for demonstrating an example regarding an information system used for one or more business processes, you could take an example of Project management system which is used to track projects as well as employee performances. Several value chains can be tracked using a common information system.
The relationship of business processes and information systems is many-to-many. This is demonstrated by the fact that several information systems contribute towards a common business process - such as supply chain, operations. marketing and engineering contribute towards project management business process. While, information systems are used in several business processes. such as inventory information system is used in managing supply chains of various products - i.e. different product lines use a common database.
