using the complementary principalthat the cell structure is related to its fiction, discuss how the shapes of the nerve cell and muscle cell are specific to their respective functions
According to the complimentarity principle,
Nerve cells: The nervous system consists of nerve cells called neurons, which controls all type of body activities. It transmits messages from one part of the body to other part.
The functional unit of nervous system is nerve cell. The shape and size of a cell related to its function. For example the nerve cells are thin and elongated, this help in transmiting the signals easily from one neuron to another. The neuron has a cell body called soma and two types of processes called axon and dendrites .The long cytoplasmic process of the cell body is called axon which transmits signals from cell body to other neuron. The short cytoplasmic process which receive signals from other neuron is called dendrites.
And thin shape also helps to keep the message straight path. size as well as shape plays vital role in cell function ,A cell must be big enough to contain DNA strands and protiens and all essential organs. The larger cells have larger surface arae. The nerve cells shapes vary according to number, branching and disposition of their dendrites collectively know as Arborization .
Muscle Cells: 3 types of Muscle Cells are: Skelton, Smooth And Cardiac Muscles. These are classifed as voluntary or involuntary depending on we control their movements.Again they are classied as smooth or straited. straighted muscles under microscopic view show stripped apperance .ACTIN andMYOSIN are the two major protiens presesnt in the cells. Contraction and Relaxation are the mechanism used by the muscle cells which depend on action and myosin.Skelton muscle cells arranged in bundle of linear fibers and a single muscle is elongated in shape, containing with in it many microfibrils or strands made up of protiens actin and myosin that perform muscle contraction. The elongated shapes allows the contraction protiens to lineup in an over lapping pattern that makes muscle flexing possible.Nuclei and other organs which lie with in the cell at the perimeter of muscle cells making space for the ordered patterns of the protiens.
Hence, the shapes of the nerve cell and muscle cell are specific to their respective functions.
