produce and explain five types panel used for slab construction.
Annotated sketches can be made to support the answers. EV,10
1) FLAT SLAB
Flat slab is a reinforced concrete slab supported directly by concrete columns without the use of beams. Flat slab is defined as one sided or two-sided support system with sheer load of the slab being concentrated on the supporting columns and a square slab called 'drop panels'.
2)FLAT SLAB WITH COLUMN HEAD
For the column head case, the column head is defined similar to the drop panel (to avoid superimposing the column head over the slab, there must be holes created in the slab; there must be some other thicker slabs created inside these holes, that will act as the column head).
3) FLAT SLAB WITH DROP PANEL AND COLUMN HEAD.
If the live load of the building is large enough to cause excessive shear stress, enough depth should be provided around the column to prevent the shear stress from causing punching. And if the depth of column head or drop panel alone is very large , which is aesthetically displeasing , it is better to go for drop plus column head
4) FLAT SLAB WITH DROP PANEL.
Flat slab with drop panels is that type of slab where drop panels are used to resist negative moment of slab produced by columns
