Case Three Change Management
As a Human Resources Business Partner, you have been asked by a Production Manager to help her create a change management plan. The change that will be implemented with involve modifying a work process that has been in place for over ten years and that front-line team members have become extremely accustomed to…but just isn’t efficient anymore. The Production Manager is concerned about resistance and the lack of adoption by the team members if the change is not rolled out “correctly”.

Strategies that should be employed to minimize resistance to change and enhance the adoption of the new process:
1. Better leadership: there is a need to influence the employees in a better way to behave in the desired manner.
For example- the manager should act as a mentor for the employees who resist change, they should try to understand their point of view and then should respond to them accordingly in order to make them convinced to adopt new change and processes.
2. Communication: the level of communication should be increased by the manager himself in order to avoid any type of rumor related to the new project and the upcoming burden.
Eg: the project manager should himself send detailed notice to all the employees concerned regarding the new change and tell them why is it necessary.
3. Motivation: Managers should try to motivate the concerned employees by providing incentives to them to work accordingly. Eg: management should try to convince them by telling them how they would benefit from the changes- it can be any promotion or increase in pay, or any other form of benefits.
4. Empathizing: the manager should try to empathize and look from the employee's points of view and decide accordingly.
Eg: manager should try to listen to what difficulties are employees facing the changes and try to minimize them in order to avoid resistance.
5. Participation: the manager should try to increase employees' participation in order to avoid resistance.
Eg: the manager should try to involve the employees in deciding about the new process and should let them give advice and adopt some if found good.
