Search for an example of Medicare or Medicaid fraud and abuse in the last three years.
In two to three paragraphs and in your own words explain the wrongdoing; and the law(s) and/or regulations that were violated.
In your opinion indicate whether there is some ethical reason that could justify the wrongdoing.
The case that I want to talk abour is the largest healthcare fraud which was taken down to date announced recently by HHS Office of the Inspector General and Department of Justice. With over 600 defendants who were illegally charged with participating in various fraud schemes which amounted to average $2 Billion in the losses to a medicare and medicaid.
This case talks about having over 600 defendants who were charges, 165 were out of them medical professionals including 30 doctors who allegedly joined and participated in this fraud scheme which majorly involved prescribing and distributing opioids, nacrotics and other drugs to the patients and people for huge amount of money.
The charges announced by the the law caretakers involved claims submitted to TRICARE, Medicare and medicaid and towards all the private insurance companies for all the medically unnecessary prescription drugs that were never or oftentimes not given to the patients.
One of the biggest scam in the healthcare and many ethical considerations and laws were violated like the good providing of services by doctors and keeping their personal benefit apart from the patients's health. All of this happened is because of greed of more money. I don't think there is any ethical reason which could justify this wrong doing as mainly all the doctors involved in this case committed this series of crime because of money that would arise because of drugs and and that would violate eventually all the other ethical considerations for the health instituitions.
