2. What are the effects of technology on empathy? Do you agree with our author? Why/why not? What solutions can you offer/see, if any?
The author's main argument is that when we choose to communicate through social media, email, or text message over face-face interaction, we are missing on many neurological keys to feeling empathy. In other words, the virtual interaction we maintain largely lacks feelings of empathy towards each other. As a consequence, over time we lost our emphatic capacity. I do agree with the author's position that we have seriously degraded ourselves with the way we maintain our interactions. The communication and interactions seems to last momentarily without any long- term relationship. There are solutions that we can offer to save our empathy by engaging in deeper interaction and encouraging face-face interaction. Instead of choosing to text a person, we can ask for a few hours to meet and talk. Besides, we should also not encoraged ourselves to be sorrounded by so many people in social media.
