Fortune 500 Report: A written report on the management practices of a Fortune 500 organization will be required using a variety of research resources, students will examine the organization’s accomplishments and successes and then review how and why the organization has succeeded or failed as a result of its management. This is NOT a comprehensive report about the organization’s products or services. The emphasis is on the organization’s management practices. The report must be written in APA style. I have taken an example of largest retail corporation works globally. The major success of the organization is a leader in sustainability, employment opportunity and Corporate Philanthropy. To which, will discuss one of its success strategy "Employment Opportunity".
There are two determinants of the company’s Human resource management and as follows;
1. Employee training
2. Performance Management
The training programs are designed to make sure the effectiveness in handling daily job tasks and ability to adapt in the retail industry. It helps to maximize employee productivity. These efforts towards the training programs and performance management of the company show the problems and challenges in human resource management.
Employee Training:
i. Needs Analysis
There are different types of training needs analysis available. The applicability of each depends on the objectives of the organization. The following analysis applied to the firm’s human resource management.
· Work/task analysis- used for understanding specific knowledge, skills, and abilities required to fulfill jobs
· Cost-benefit analysis- used for optimizing the costs towards training and human resource management.
· Organizational analysis- used to identify current or emerging human resource management concerns that can be integrated in training programs such as product development, product change.
ii. Program Design: The firm practices two main approaches for training program design. Each approach addresses certain qualities involved in different job positions in the organization.
· Results-oriented program design- the main idea of this approach is to satisfy the training needs such as required knowledge, skills and abilities for each job.
· Process-oriented program design- this approach addresses the objective for developing training programs involved in inventory and supply chain management.
iii. Delivery: The delivery of training programs depends on the job positions and tasks involved.
· Discussions
· On-the-job training
· Coaching to the trainees.
iv. Evaluation: This is to determine the firm’s training effectiveness and to guide human resource management in improving these programs. The firm also evaluates the results of training, such as new knowledge and skills and the rate of learning.
Performance Management
Performance Planning: Based on following three main dimensions, planning process can be done.
1. Customer service orientation – helps to directly address the concerns and ensure the customer satisfaction on the experience.
2. Decision-making and results orientation- this helps in planning managerial activity at the time of decision making
3. Analysis and problem-solving – this helps to analyze the problems and solve it in a better manner.
Measurements and Standards: It has different standards for different types of jobs and at different levels of the organizational structure. For instance, Decision-making and financial performance standards are usually emphasized in managerial positions.
Performance Problems are as follows:
1. Lower productivity due to absenteeism – This leads to termination of the employee.
2. Inaccuracies or errors in recording or reporting – Firm brings change in systematic procedure to book the accounts.
3. Negativism in customer relations or workplace relations- To overcome this challenge, firm provides huge benefits/ incentives to reduce the negative comments at workplace.
With the help of effective management practice the firm could overcome many challenges and sustain in the global marketplace to succeed in providing employment opportunities.
