Identify the antagonist muscles that are activated during the following resistance training exercises:
Lying neck flexion
Lateral neck flexion
Dead bugs
Bicycle crunch
ANS) Antagonist muscles are the muscles that play a part in the movement and controlling motions. The muscles that relax are called anatgonist and the muscles that contract are called agonist.
Thus, the antagonist muscles involved in resistance training exercises:
Lying Neck flexion are: Levator scapula, Splenius capitis, Upper trapezius and Splenius cervicis, as they help in backward moving of the neck.
Lateral neck flexion are: Scalenes, Contralateral upper trapezius and Levator scapula, as they in sideways movement of the neck
Dead bugs are: Levator scaoula, Contralateral upper trapezius and Scalenes when legs are lifted and Biceps, Brachioradialis and Brachialis when hands are lifted.
Bicycle crunch are: Quads when stomach is pressed during crunches, Anconeus, triceps and hamstrings when legs are pulled upward and levator scapula, splenius cervivis, Upper trapezius, Splenius capitis when neck is pulled forward.
