Relate the following quotation to one of the intellectual traits discussed in the Paul-Elder critical thinking framework. (15)
“Be like the bamboo – the higher you grow, the deeper you bow.” – Chinese proverb
The pual elder critical thinking framework has three elements which include - intellectual standards, resoning elements, intellectual traits.
The intellectual traits has 8 characteristics -
Humility, courage, empathy, autonomy, integrity, perseverance, reasoning with confidence, fair or open mindedness
Out of these all traits,Intellectual humility is the trait that can be compared with this chinese proverb - Be like a bamboo, the higher you grow, the deeper you bow.
Humility is a major concept and it simply means being humble. When you have the knowledge, it makes you more modest. This proverb can be related to humility as humility means being humble or modest in character which comes with good knowledge and when one knows his limits. The humility is most important character because you can not have all the other intellectual characteristics if you do not have modesty or it is worthless if that knowledge does not make you humble.
Humility means humble character which comes with good knowledge. More is the knowledge, more you will be humble and modest, the more you respect and understand.
Humilty is about having knowledge about your limits and having sensitivity for others. it is the ability to know what it right or wrong as well as having the ability to accept the right or wrong.
