Following are the major causes of death for children younger than 5 years:

• Premature birth cases (responsible for 18 % of deaths)
• Pneumonia cases (responsible for 16 % of deaths)
• Birth defects cases (13 % of deaths)
• Newborn infections, malaria, sepsis, measles (13 % of deaths)
• Birth complications (11 % of deaths)
• Diarrhea (9 % of deaths)

Apart from this childhood malnutrition is also an underlying cause of 45 percent of all deaths among children younger than 5, according to the WHO.

Hence there is need of proper nutrition is to prevent such child deaths.

It is very important to measure and control as it denoted the overall health status of a country worldwide and the healthy children are the future of a prosperous country, hence it should not be negotiable.
