How would have Reconstruction been different if Abraham Lincoln hadn't been assassinated or had picked a Vice President that shared his views? Do you think the Southerners would have done their own thing regardless of the VP pick? Explain your thinking by referencing specific aspects of the Reconstruction
Abraham Lincoln had ambitions and positive ideas towards reconstruction and the post-war era; Lincoln had plans to reintegrate the confederate states back into the Union; he also accorded presidential pardons to imprisoned southerners and despised the political leaders who had assumed oath of future allegiance to the Union (Ayers & Edward, 2007). Abraham has federally authorized the extension of the franchise to African American residents. Essentially the 13th Amendment insisted on abolishing slavery and enhanced redistribution of economic resources to the freed people.
Abraham was focused on rebuilding the United States, with much attention to infrastructure improvements. These were the ambitions and projects exhibited in his administration's initial stages, proving that were it not for his death, much would be achieved under his leadership (Richardson & Heather, 2007). The Southerners would have significantly benefitted since the Amendments favored them and eradicated injustices like slavery and involuntary servitude. Andrew Johnson was like-minded to Lincoln since their priorities rhymed, which enhanced continued reconstruction even after Lincoln's death.
