March on Washington for jobs and freedom was led by civil rights leaders to protest racial discrimination and to show support for major civil rights legislation that was pending in congress.
Civil rights protestors did assemble at the Lincoln Memorial in 1957 for Prayer Pilgrimage for freedom and in October 1958 for Youth march for Integrated schools. By 1963, most of the goals had not been realised. Problems like High level of black employment, works that offered most african american only minimal wages and poor jobs mobility, system dienfrachisement of many africans prompted demand of political and economic justice. Therefore, On 28 August 1963, more than 2,00,000 demonstrators took part in march on washington for jobs and freedom in the Nation's capital. The march was successful in pressurizing the administration of John.F.Kennedy to initiate a strong federal civil rights bill in congress. During this event, Martin Luther King delivered his "I have a dream speech".
