What is Information Technology Standards? Please give a real world example?

The Information Technology Standards are the standards which are
used to govern and set a standard for computers and computer
networks. As a standard means that the process and equipment or
software should comply with a definite standard, thus Information
Technology Standards are necessary for the IT. This helps the
companies in meeting the quality and also the consumers to trust
the standard and in turn the products and software which they use
which comply with the standard. The Information Technology
Standards have both the hardware and the software and thus exist
for the OS, programming language, software, and other kinds of
equipment, communication protocols, etc.
For example, the ASCII or UNICODE standard which is used in the
computers worldwide to ascertain that what the information and data
the numbers mean. ASCII has the mapping between the numbers and the
characters or letters such as 65 = A, 66 = B and others
likewise.
