This section follows the four key phases involved in developing and implementing the environmental strategy and action plan for a major event:

  • planning
  • before the event
  • during the event
  • after the event

The planning phase includes gaining commitment and buy-in, identifying key stakeholders, assessing the event’s environmental impacts, determining the scope, completing a baseline assessment and developing an environmental strategy and action plan. Phase two, before the event, includes implementing the action plan and monitoring and communicating. Phase three, during the event, includes delivering the event and measuring the event’s impacts. The final phase, post event, includes assessing and promoting the legacy of the event.
