Explain at least three reasons why there are so many divisions/denominations in the Christian religion.
Three out of the many reasons for the divisions/denominations in Christianity:
Differences in doctrine: Ever since the beginning of the spread of Christianity, the "message of God" as stated in the bible has been interpreted differently by different people. So, the rules or the principles that is laid down to be followed varies between groups. This is one of the main reasons why protestants vary with the ideas of Catholics etc., This is a reason for the division of the Christian church
Differences in administrative capabilities: Having a unified church meant having a single organization responsible for religious agenda. This meant finances, paperwork, resources and marketing being handled by a single organization. This was not feasible considering the scale at which Christianity has spread through the world. This has led to new divisions cropping up to assist the local administration of the church.
Differences in personalities: Each individual has a unique personality. What goes well with one may not go well with the other. People, as individuals decide that certain parts of the bible are not suitable, so they omit them. This leads them to create a new denomination of interpreting the 'God's word' in a new way - leading to a new church.
Explain what is meant by the term “synoptic gospels,” and discuss why this term is important for Christians when reading the Bible.
The chapters of Mathew, Mark & Luke of the Bible are called the synoptic gospels. They are called synoptic gospels because they are in sync. All these chapters have a similar storyline, characters, and sequence of happenings. Even though Mark was the first gospel written, Mathew & Luke were written with Mark as a precedent. The term 'synoptic gospels' is important from a Christian point of view because it reinforces the belief that in spite of being individual works, all these chapters have the same qualities and thereby confirming that the books were written with the spiritual guidance of the holy spirit.
