Waste elimination and process improvement can be applied to virtually any process. Identify a process at work or school or home that you feel lends itself to waste elimination. You should first characterize the process, noting the value added and non-value added activities. Can the non-value added activities be eliminated? The value added activities should be examined and analyzed for potential improvements. Describe the system as it exists and as you think it should be. Describe how you went about identifying and eliminating waste?
Waste elimination process is considered to be an effeciency and
effectivity increasing process in which all the activities having a
non value factor within themselves are considered to be eliminated
within the organisations to decrease the costs and time at large
and achieve a higher degree of productivity.
One good example for studying and analysing the waste elimination
process is simply imagining a Walmart Store. Consider you went
there, buy things and you are waiting in the queue to bill your
products. As only two counters are there, you are not able to have
your number arrive and thus have to wait there 15-20 minutes to get
your bill. You don't like waiting and you probably are thinking
going to some other small store would be a benefecial idea next
time and thus won't prefer to reach Walmart again. This would
affect the selling and revenue of Walmart and is an example of
waste as customer are waiting and you are not serving them is a
waste of time. To eliminate this, you'll understand thr valuable
objects and subjects for example the human resource and the
counters to make two-three extra counters to make the bill. This
will not only make the customers wait shorter but also increase the
speed of your company to bill that will result both in effectivity
and efficiency. This is an effective example of waste elimination
process where customer's time and efforts are saved and so is the
company's. This waste value and non value elements are identified
as the feedback from the customer and the company's own research
and analysis depicts that most of the time is spent by billing the
products. Thus, how can one make a better move reducing this time
and cost. This question gives the company the answer they need.
This waste elimination process has many benefits which are:
1. It helps effectively to reduce the costs of the organisation by reducing all the processes and elements causing the waste.
2. It helps in achieving a higher degree of time valuation as time is reduced to produce or serve the customers thus more inputs could be attend and more output could be generated by this.
3. It also helps the company to have a goodwill and a good brand image in the market.
