Ms. Saikley, AM at International BusinessServices, is wondering whether to vote to have a holiday office party this December. She has just spoken with the sales manager, who told her about an incident that happened at another company last holiday season. It seems that the other organization decided to have an “employees only” office party on Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m. at a local downtown restaurant. Two weeks later, the wife of one of the workers burst into the office area and began shouting accusations at an office worker who she thought was having an affair with her husband. It was embarrassing to everyone in the organization and most agreed it was unnecessary. The tantrum became loud and abusive on both parties parts—the wife making accusations and the office worker denying them. The situation became pretty tense at this point.
Questions:
1. If you were the AM of that organization, how would you have reacted to the situation just described? The office worker would have reported to you, and you were the first manager on the scene.
2. Should a policy be written covering office parties? If so, what would be your input on this policy? Should a policy be written concerning visitors who enter the work-place (even family members) and create a disturbance?
A Thumbs Up! Would be really helpful for me. If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
As the AM of the company, if this above-mentioned case happened main organization then firstly, I would try to calm down the situation and give both sides the opportunity to define their point as shouting and using abusive language in the organization is not acceptable. It can ruin the working environment of the organization which can motivate other work as well. Secondly, the wife of that worker is accusing that it is husband is having affair with one of his organization's work but the thing is she can only be proved right only if she is having evidence. To sort things down, as a manager you need to take some steps which will help them. Like you can ask other office workers about the allegation his wife is putting on him and also on one of our office workers because use in that party many people work to present. If you will ask them then they will speak the truth out and you will get to know about the truth and by that, you can make a decision. Is that person is guilty then he should be punished along with the other worker with which he was having affair because it was a case of cheating the office worker isn't guilty then his wife should apologize from his husband as well as from the office worker on which she was putting allegation.
2) According to me, no person is allowed to enter office premises if he or she is not working there because it can ruin the working environment of the organization and can disturb other employees who are working there and it will affect the organizational objectives as well because these type of disturbance is not acceptable in the organization because every employee working in the organization wants a peaceful environment to work and help in achieving organizational objectives with their hard work and dedication.
