  1. One-Way Within-Subjects ANOVA

A researcher noticed that many products sold in the United States depict famous people or characters. To determine whether this actually influences how much children like these products, the researcher game children a block of wood. On the top of the block of wood was a sticker of either a superhero, a parent, a teacher, or no person at all (just a plain colored sticker). Children were allowed to handle each block of wood for two minutes, and then asked to rate how much they liked each block of wood on a pictorial scale. These types of scales are typically used with children. Higher ratings indicated greater liking (the ratings are given by group below). Test whether the stickers influenced liking for the block of wood at a .05 level of significance.

Based on the output given in SPSS, Complete the following F table (assume sphericity):

Sources of Variation

SS

df

MS

F statistic

Sig. (p value)

Between-Groups

Error

Based on the value of the test statistic, what is the decision for the one-way within-subjects ANOVA? (highlight one)

Not Significant Significant

Write the statistic in APA format: ________________________

State which pair of groups significantly differed using a Fisher’s LSD post-hoc tests. Remember, SPSS places an asterisk next to each significant difference in the “Mean Differences” column of the output table.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The SPSS output is:

Sources of Variation SS df MS F statistic Sig. (p value)
Between-Groups 13.857 3 4.619 4.367 0.008
Error 55 52 1.058

Significant

Reject Ho and conclude that there is a significant difference between the group means. (F (3, 52) = 4.367, p = 0.008 < 0.05)

There is a significant difference between Superhero and None. (d = 1.21, p = 0.003 < 0.05)

There is a significant difference between Parent and None. (d = 1.14, p = 0.005 < 0.05)

There is a significant difference between Teacher and None. (d = 1.07, p = 0.008 < 0.05)

Please give me a thumbs-up if this helps you out. Thank you!
