Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution:

Given: A doctor finds that there is a positive correlation between the amount of hours slept and memory performance.

We have to show the result.

For correlation analysis initial step is to draw scatter plot.

Scatter plot gives the idea about type of correlation between two variables.

If scatter plot shows increasing trend , that is : as increasing values of one variable, there is also increase in values of other variable, then there is positive correlation between two variables.

If scatter plot shows decreasing trend , that is : as increasing values of one variable, there is decrease in values of other variable, then there is negative correlation between two variables.

If scatter plot does not show any pattern, then there is weak or no correlation between two variables.

Thus the best way to show the results is scatter plot.

Note:

Line chart and bar chart are used when we have frequency distribution.

Pie chart is used for showing frequencies of categorical data.

thus line, bar and pie chart are not suitable for correlation.
