According to Tylor blain tasks are one of the two types of activities which can be incorporated into a BPMN diagram. Each task in the BPMN diagram denotes an atomic activity in a business process. The second type of activity that can be included is sub-processes.

Four unique type of tasks are included in the BPMN specification. Two combinations of types also there.

1. Normal task

The normal task represents a single action that can be occurred in a business process. Example: “buy a computer.”

2. Loop task

They are the repeating tasks. They repeat sequentially

3. Multiple instance task

The repetition along with multiple copies in parallel occurs.

4. Compensation task

It occurs as compensation for an undone task. It is a special task that is only carried out when another specified task is not accomplished.

5. Compensation loop task

Combination of loop task and compensation task. The sequential repletion of compensation task.

6. Multiple instance compensation task

Combination of Multiple instance tasks and compensation task.

Repeated compensation task, copies happening in parallel.
