Expert Solution

Insulins are the hormone that plays a key role in controlling blood sugar level in the body .they are grouped by how fast they start to work and how long their effect last .

FASTEST ACTING INSULIN

The fastest acting insulin is also known as the "Rapid acting insulin ".

The fast acting insulin are the one which gets quickly absorbed in to the blood stream and it will start to work within 15 minutes to lower the blood sugar level and reaches its peak with in 1 hour and continous to work for 2 - 4 hours .

Fast acting insulin are the meal time insulin because these insulin are administered before or immediately after the meal to minimize the rise in blood sugar level after the meal because taking meals naturally increases the blood sugar level.

types of fast acting insulin they are ;

* Lispro - available in the names as Humalog or admelog

* Aspart - available in the brand names of Novolog or fiasp

* Glulisine - available in the brand name Apidra

SLOWEST ACTING INSULIN

slowest acting insulin are also called as " long acting ,basal ,background insulin .

It provide a slow steady release of insulin into the blood stream and start working slowly with 30 - 90 mints only to control the blood sugar level between meals and overnight and it will last about 22 - 24 hours .

These insulin are administered once or twice in a day and no matter when the food has taken .

Types of slowest acting insulin ;

* Detemir - available in the brand of levemir

* Glargine - available in the brand lantus

* Degludec - available in the brand Tresiba
