There was one clinical psychologist as part of the team of five evaluating Mike Tyson from the Massachusetts General Hospital. The clinical psychologist used three tools as part of his assessment. But it seems to me that the psychologist should’ve used another specific kind of measure that wasn’t included in the three measures he used. What kind of measure did the psychologist not use that he should’ve used? List a specific tool or two that you think he should’ve used, and explain why he should’ve used the tool(s).

David Medoff(PhD and Psychologist ),who was one of the panel of doctors who examined Mike Tyson, deemed him of being mentally fit to resume his boxing training. He conducted mutilple psychological tests on him. Bender Gestalt test, Rorschach and MMPI-2 were few of them. Rorschach is a projective technique test in which a person us shown a series of inkblot and is asked to interpret it. The responses are then analysed and a diagnosisis made. It is best suited for identifying the symptoms of psychosis(schizophrenia) and axiety related disirder. The MMPI-2 is a standardized psychological test for personality testing. It consist of a series of 600 questions . Last but not the least, Bender Gestalt test is a quick recognition that examines the visual and motor skills of an individual. Another kind of psychological measures that Dr.Medoff did not use but should have used is The Sexual Addiction Screening Test (SAST), which is formulated to examine and assessment of sexual conduct and activities, which may indicate the presence of sex addiction. Going by Mr.Tyson's sexual history of sleeping with multiple women, maximum of fifteen in one day ( Undisputed Truth, 2013 ). This psychological testing would have confirmed the presence of sex addiction. To further understand the cause of it, another psychological tool should have been used by the psychologist. Thematic Apperception Test would have been suitable for this purpose. It involves showing the subject peck of cards which jas drawings on it and asking the subject to describe a story(what led to this scene), emotion each character is feeling and what could be the possible outcome of the scene. This test would have evaluated Tyson's inner conflict, attitude, motivation etc, revealing his unconscious psyche.
