Stratification refers to the positioning of different social groups in the society. The status wise hierarchy of groups of people according to wealth or power etc. Here we are talking about stratification bases on economic resources, wealth. When it comes to poor and rich, economic inequality in the society what economists focus is on the economic structures to find the answer for why the income is distributed as it is. Economists do not study the effects of this inequalities on the people. They study a phenomenon and solve the problems to facilitate a better and more efficient economic process. Therefore when it comes to the problems and impacts of different factors on society as a whole sociologists are the people who should step in. Sociologists studies the impact of economic inequality on the society. They can highlight the drawbacks of this which can help people focus on the matter and come up with solutions in according to the context that affect society and thus it can potentially contribute to the well weing of society.
