Hi, I would love to answer you with this question and hope you get a clear idea related to the same. So not wasting much time lets get started.

Ans.1 The additional two boot loaders are there which can be  used except of LILO and GRUB , these are :

• BRUG - New Boot Loader -- This is a boot loader which is derived from the GRUB and have some features same but with some additional advantages as new object format can support the Windows and Mac etc.
• SysLinux -- This is a ligh weighted boot loader which uses CD-Rom to enable booting. It supports filesystem FAT for ms-dos and ext1 , ext2, ext3, ext4 for linux.

If we talk about the comparison between all the four boot loaders allhave some different aspect and some cool additional features but we need to find out the compact and decide how the two of these are as compared to the LILO and GRUB boot loader. The BRUG if we compare is almost good as compare to that GRUB and LILO as it consists of the fatures from the GRUB and has some great bug fixes which somewhere GRUB lacks and as the LILO doesnt support CLI feature it can be kept below the BRUG .

If we talk about the Syslinux then the GRUB and the LILO will be the preferred ones as they are not as lighweighted and need not the CD for enabling booting and some several advantages over it like encryption and setting password in GRUB which may leave syslinux far behind.

So this is an idea of mine related to you first question lets head towards the another one.

Ans.2  So some of the desktop environments for the Linux are as follows :

• KDE Plasma - This desktop environment is more like the comforting couch for a beginner enterin linux , this can be seen inside the Parrot OS, several featurs can be accessed easily.
• Pantheon - One of the main feature of this desktop environment is the file highlighting feature anyone switching from Mac will not miss this feature to highlight the important folders.
• Cinnamon - This shares the two types on mixed environments of GNOME 2 and KDE plasma
• Mate - This looks like an old man standing , If you were a fan of linux in back 2000 having this would not be a bad idea.
