Those practices, although, that claims to provide healing effects from medicine but they are unproven, disaproven or non-existing scientific background are known as Fringe medicine or Alternative medicine. It an also be defined from quackery to integrative medicine alongwith the promotion of the same malpractices.
Alternative medidine systems use basic elements from both tradidtional medicine and complementary alternative medicine. as for example, Indian Ayurveda uses natural products, prifying diets and yoga exercises, traditioanl Chinese medicine includes the use of herbal medicine, meditation exercuses, acu[uncture and special diets.
1) Homeopathy:- the main aim is to revitalize the injured vital force through this alternatuve medicine system
There are no side effects with this system reported yet in the literature. It is based in three principles- Simplex Similimum Minimum, Principle of Individualisation and Principle of Potentisation. The advantages of the above system are avoidance of surgery, no side effects, no contraindications, pain relief without complications, Anti allergic and anti-septic products. on the contrary, there are few dusadvantages that includes ineffective in all disease states and also ineffective in treating some conditions which cry out for simple nutrition and lifestyle changes.
2) Acupuncture:- Those procedures that involves the stimulation of anatomical points on the body using various techniques. It involves penetration of skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manually manipulated or by electric stimulation.
principle:- Influencing an organ by the channels of energy that flows through the body (Acupunture Meridians) and there are different meridians for the heart, kidney, intestine, lung etc.
It is a non-invasive form of treatment and suitale for almost all people, regardless of physical condition. But contrarily, physical ailments like fractured bone cannt be cured and treatments are costly, have unguaranteed results.
3) Biofeedback Therapy:- It includes the use of sensors and electrodes to the body providing a variety of readings.
Principle:- The atttached instrument measure physiological activity such as heart function, muscle activity, brainwaves or skin temperature which renders rapid and accurate feedback information to the user which helps in traininng the patient control physiological processes.
The advantages of this system includes voluntary psychomotor control of activity and even to a small change in physilogical activity. but training and guidance by therapist may require few practice sessions.
4) Magnetotherapy:- it includes the use of magnets as a source of directed energy. It involves applying a magnet to the skin or close to the skin to improve a condition. It applies the principle of electromagnetism physics to the magnetic fields present in the human body.
5) Unani:- It was compiled by the great scholar, Hippocrates. It is based on four Human theories, which are Dam (blood), Balgham (Phlegm), Safra (Yellow bite) and sauda (black bite).
It is very effective in treatment of skin diseases, curing acute conditions (indigestion) and curing diabetes copletely..
