What did the Crusaders hope to achieve outside Europe? Within Europe? How successful were they in achieving these goals?
The crusader's main purpose was to recapture or conquer jerusalem and the spread of christianity, they held jerusalem for 88 years and after that it fell in 1187,they tried to recover it and in the same year they fought against muslims in the holy land and there were sincere efforts from their side to make europe more christian. When mobs attacked jews the pope had allowed a crusade against the cathars and the christian army fought to reconquer muslim spain and portugal and after that crusades provided a precedent for those who believed that europeans were entitled to colonize non-christian lands outside europe several crusaded took place from 1095-1212.The initial crusades was sucessful and after that they failed because they seemed to have lose sight of their orginal purpose and also damaged the reputation of catholic church worldwide the initial crusades was sucessful because they had a clear ,organized and religious based purpose but the later one's was out of greed and as a result they failed.
