An electronic firm manufactures circuits to produce 30 amps. The UCL and LCL on the mean of the
circuits for samples of size 4 were computed to be LCL = 27.15 and UCL = 33.04. The UCL and LCL for
the sample range were estimated to be LCL = 0 and UCL = 5.75. These control limits were used to
monitor the circuits produced for 13 time periods, yielding the following data:

Expert Solution

SOLUTION-

(a) Plot the sample man on the chart for the 13 time periods.

Starting iwth MINITAB procedure:

steps to follow

Step 1: First Choose Stat > Control Charts > Variables Charts for Subgroups > Xbar.

Step 2: Choose All observations for a chart are in one column and then enter column of 1, 2, 3, 4.

Step 3: In Subgroup sizes, enter a 4.

Step 4: Click OK.

.

MINITAB output

From the MINITAB output the lower control limit for chart LCL 24.39 , upper control limit for UCL is 34.27 .

Yes, all values are lies between (24.39 , 34.27).

(b)

Plot the sample man on the R chart for the 13 time periods.

MINITAB procedure:

steps to follow

Step 1: Choose Stat > Control Charts > Variables Charts for Subgroups > R.

Step 2: Choose All observations for a chart are in one column and then enter column of 1, 2, 3, 4.

Step 3: In Subgroup sizes, enter a 4.

Step 4: Click OK.

MINITAB output:

From the MINITAB output the lower control limit for Rchart LCL , upper control limit for R UCL is 15.47

Yes, all R values are lies between .

California Circuits Company (3C) manufactures a variety of components. Its Valley plant specializes in two electronic components used in circuit boards. These components serve the same function and perform equally well. The difference in the two products is the raw material. The XL-D chip is the older of the two components and is made with a metal that requires a wash prior to assembly. Originally, the plant released the wastewater directly into a local river. The firm that manufactures patriot missiles purchases the guidance circuits from three different suppliers. Supplier A provides 30% of the guidance circuits and those circuits have a fault probability of pA =0.02, whereas the circuits from supplier B, which provides 25% of those purchased, have a fault probability of pB =0.025. The guidance circuits purchased from supplier C have pC =0.01. If a batch of 200 missiles is fired during a particular strategic offensive and three of the missiles fail...

A company that manufactures electronic components wants to know the mean discharge time of one particular type of capacitor that it makes. In order to estimate this value, they randomly select 100 capacitors and measure how long they take to discharge. The mean of this sample was 7.25 seconds with a standard deviation of 0.15 seconds. Assuming that this distribution is normal, construct a 99% confidence interval to estimate the mean discharge time for all capacitors of this type. Since...
