Scenario:
You have just joined a new workforce and have immediately noticed there is almost no quality control procedures in place. After a quick conversation with your colleagues on the matter, it is clear that they agree that quality control needs to be brought in, but they do not know enough about the subject to bring it up to management.

Activity:
You have decided that this must be brought up to management, and since none of your colleagues are comfortable with stepping up to the challenge, it is up to you to convince management.

Task:
You decide that the best way to get this information across is to write a report to your managers discussing:

a. The techniques used to support quality control, explain how these techniques could be used in an industrial environment.
b. Describe the processes used in statistical process control for an industrial environment, also consider whereabouts these processes could be applied. With this in mind, give justified reasons as to why you would recommend the use of statistical process control within an engineering environment.

Expert Solution

techniques used to support quality control and their use in industrial environment

cause and effect diagram- in this first find the cause of the problem and then counter effect due to this problems in the project.

use in an industrial environment- take an example of low production in an industry in the summer season.

  • problem- low production
  • causes- less labor, electricity issues, etc
  • effect- decrease in the sale.

control charts- gauge behavior of the process over time. if behaviour found unacceptable variance then we control using 3 sigma

use in industrial environmental- in any industry to gauge any problem in the project we have to gauge behavior during process time and whenever find any unusual behavior we correct it same time so that further process not affected by that unusual behavior. control unacceptable behavior early saves the cost and time of the process and it leads to timely delivery of the project.

histogram- it simply helps to showcase the data in frequency terms.

use in an industrial environment- at what frequency particular event is processing. as it gives a clear picture of every event frequency it can help us in operation.

statistical process control(SPC)-

before quality control, we have to collect data and the statistical process tool helps to achieve this. following steps are involved in SPC-

PLAN- in the industry when any problem arises i.e may produce some defective part or any other problem after finding the problem plan the procedure to correct it.

RESEARCH- when problem identify SPC software helps to analyze and helps to take corrective action to engineer decision through PLC

ANALYZE - for analyzing data send to the R&D department for improving product quality and for increasing consumer satisfaction.

ACT- if you get the satisfaction result then ready to process the product otherwise correct the problem with some other tool and then processed.

I recommend the use of statistics process tool in engineering environment because this process help in producing an efficient product with less wastage. and then we called it as EPC( ENGINEERING PROCESS CONTROL)
