In thermodynamics
What are the common questions asked regarding
Adiabatic
Isochoric
Isobaric
Isothermal
Isentropic
Isenthalpic
Reversible
Expansion
Compression
I just want to familiarise myself with the common questions that can be asked regarding the following processes and a good way to solve each type of question
Thank you
(I’m familiar with all the equations/derivations/definitions/cycles)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Adiabatic : When no heat is added or remove from system

Isochoric: no volume change of system

Isothermal: Temperature remain constant of the system

Isentropic: When entropy remain constant

Isenthalpic: when enthalpy remain constant

Reversible: system return to same position

Expansion : Volume increases

Compression: Volume decrease

Questions

1- In turbine which type of process is invole: Ans : Adiabatic

2-What are the different process involve in Carnot cycle:Ans: Isothermal expansion, Adiabatic comression,Isothermal compression,Adiabatic expansion

3-whic type of process is in flow through orifice meter to calculate flow rate from pipe :Ans: Isenthalpic

4-What is the problem in using Carnot cycle: Ans: There will be production of liquid vapor mixturein turbine, liquid causes errosion problem to turbine blade. and we can not design a pump which wil operate on liquid vapor mixture

5-What can be the improvement in Carnot cycle: Ans: Introduce Rankine cycle

6-What is the work done in isochoric process :Ans: 0 ( because dV = 0, so W = pdV

7-Why Carnot cycle is more efficient or efficiency of Carnot cycle is maximum: Ans: Because It consider the reversible path but in actual it does not happen

8-Why adiabatic prosess is also known as isentropic process: Ans: dS =dQ/T, when dQ =0 , so dS =0

9-In Which case you will get more work, Adiabatic or isothermal :Ans: Adiabatic

10-What is the efficiency of turbine: Ans: Ws/Ws(isentropic)
