R3. 25:

Total Preventive Maintenance is used to watch for which of the following?

  1. A. Ensuring quality checks are performed
  2. B. Overproduction
  3. C. Symptoms of machine failure
  4. D. Signs that a part will go out of specification

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer: C. Symptoms of machine failure.

Total preventive maintainance is the approach, which gives a responsibility to the employee for routine maintainance of machinaries, instead of hiring separate employees. The intention of total preventive maintainance is to keep the machinaries in good conditions and monitor them in order to avoid the machine breakdowns which affect the productivity. Therefore, Total preventive maintance can be used to watch the symptoms of machine failure through regular maintainance.

Whereas, quality and checks are ensured through separate teams, tools and techniques.

Total preventive maintainance is not used to watch the overproduction activities.

Total preventive maintainance will not deal with material specification, whether the product is within or outside the tolerance.
