How can you decide whether an organisation is more convergent or divergent in its strategy?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Lets first understand the meaning of Convergent and divergent in any strategy with an example.

1. Convergent Approach: Before e-commerce websites like flipkart, amazon, snap deal ,mintra etc got emerged, we are using simple method of shopping. we go to a retailer shops in a particular area and choose the things that are available only in their shops. That means we have very less numbers of options to choose from. Thus we are sacrificing the Opportunity of getting new things in the market globally, and only depend on the thins available in the shop.

This is called as convergent approach.

2.Divergent Approach: same After e-commerce websites like flipkart, amazon, snap deal ,mintra etc got emerged, we have more options to choose from many new trends and things that are not available locally in the market or in the retailer shop. This means we are exploring towards new opportunities.

This is called as divergent approach

Now for organization, same concept can be applied to know about the strategy of the company.

Convergent In strategy: Organization will focus on current products and current situation and like to work in same method, same process, by using same technology etc without looking for the new trends and futuristic approach.

Divergent in Strategy: Organization will have futuristic approach in its strategy. Organization will focus on new trends in market , new competitors, new product development , implementation of new technologies , process , methods etc.
