MLB wants to get rid of some minor league baseball leagues. What are the pros and cons of doing so? Who are the stakeholders involved and does it prove that MLB is becoming diluted?
Pros will be that MLB will get to focus on limited number of games which can improve efficiency. Major leagues can get more sponsorships and thus players can practice for the big games and reduce the time travel and improve working conditions. Eliminating players would increase salaries of major athletes.
Cons are that organisations will obtain less revenue from less number of events, there will be less scope for new entrants who used to start from the minor leagues, this used to increase their endurance and the level of skill, which used to prove advantageous on the major league front. There will be less money for charities as most of the minor leagues used to help local communities.
Stakeholders involved are the major and minor league team owners who have invested their time and money for such games. Players who have been recruited recently and the customers who feel enlightened that their league is participating. It does prove that MLB is being diluted as the focus is shifting to major leagues and minor leagues concerns are not being addressed as they handle the fields, equipment and travel, etc.
