Topic 10b: Project Management Maturity Models
de Souza & Gomes (2015) briefly discuss five project management maturity models. Select and research one model (other than the Kerzner model). Briefly describe the maturity stages associated with the model, assess where your organization fits in the hierarchy and explain why. Describe what cultural changes would have to occur for the organization to reach the next level.
Gartner PPM Maturity Model
There are five steps for this maturity model:
Level 1: Reactive - All the internal processes here are centred and
no formal tools of management are used
Level 2: Emerging Discipline - Here progressive processes are set
and they are aligned with the organizational strategy
Level 3: Initial Integration - Paths are defined here and and here
it where cross functional groups are mostly formed in the
company
Level 4: Effective Integration - Many other methods are surfaced
for progressive strategy and methods to track the processes are
being tracked
Level 5: Effective Innovation - Mini projects are made here for
smooth progress and strategies are made rapidly so that methods can
be tracked.
There are a few cultural changes needed for this. It takes a lot of
time for the organization to lead it because the company has to be
open about sharing work and ideas with different departments. It
takes a lot of time to reach to that level because for ideas to
flow it takes a lot of time to form inter personal and functional
groups where people are comfortable working with each other and
discuss ideas and strategies.
