Question 1a. Please share your reaction to - Columbine survivors are now parents in world of school of school shootings. How prevalent of a problem is this? Do you think there is enough time or resources devoted to them? Why or why not?

Columbine survivors are now parents in world of school of school shootings. This statement is prevalent today. There is enough time and resources devoted to that but still we are unwilling to eradicate this issue from the root.

Nowadays, schools are focusing on conducting drills which helps in teaching students to lock down themselves inside the classrooms. Schools are forming several teams to assess these kinds of threats. Securities are being hired at a large number and the shifts of these securities are in continuous rotation.

Apart from these so many other practices are being followed like, introduction of surveillance videos, placement of emergency buttons, automatic doors and locks., but still there is no end to this issue. How much we will try, how much efforts we will put in these issues, the issue remains prevailing.

The security of school has now become a multi-billion-dollar industry. Antennas are being used for constant monitoring, radar system is being used to trace the uneven activities, drones are being used, all this explains that enough time and resources are being devoted to these.

Also, with this prevailing issue, mostly parents think of choosing option for home schooling but since they don’t want to ruin life of their children, they must forcefully send their them to school despite of acute fear.

Question 1b. Where does this issue fall on the issue maturity scale? Why? Where do you think it should fall and why?

A maturity scale has 4 stages:

The issue falls under emerging stage since, nowadays, awareness is being spread among the parents and children about the unsafety of their children at schools. Most of the parents are in extreme fear of the safety for their children, due to this, they even avoid sending their children to school via school buses or vans but prefer to drop them to school by their own. Also, they are constantly getting panic attacks due to the safety of their children.

Rather, according to me, this issue should fall under the Institutionalized stage. This is because every individual should be aware of the safety for children. People should be clear that ignoring this issue can cause potential significant threat to the children as well as their own family. Thus, all schools should continue lockdown drills, increased the security for children. They should take extra precautions which should include all the possible safety measures. By doing this, the fear of parents that something can happen to their children or their fear of death can be minimized.

Question 1c. Which level of corporate responsibility does this fall into for most businesses? Where do you think this should fall and why?

Various levels of Corporate Social Responsibility

This issue falls at the economic responsibility level because most of the organizations are only thinking of these issues for profitability. For example, if these kinds of issues arise in schools, this will increase the possibility of giving businesses to most of the security companies. More CCTV’s will be ordered, more expensive safety and lock systems, more drilling practice companies will be called and so on.

Rather, this issue should fall under Philanthropic Responsibility as people should make themselves safe and secure and be precautious beforehand on how to deal with these issues, Also, they should play a role of good corporate citizen who are more concerned for the safety of the society rather than the business.

Question 1e. what stage of corporate citizenship do you think this fall into? Where do you think it should fall?

There are 5 stages of corporate citizenship:

The issue falls into stage 2 i.e. engaged stage. This is because, the people are engaged in protecting their children from these issues, thus they are being more responsible for their safety. Protection of their children is their core responsibility, but external sources are not being part of these issues, rather they should also consider plenty of measures for them.

Rather now, it should fall on transforming stage, apart from parents, even external sources should also take part in the protection of civilians, not only children but for adults as well. It should change the game of safety and security and set a benchmark for this. Military, armed forces, Police, all should be actively taking part in this.
