What are some of the risk factors in a child's ecological environment that might result in the neglect or abuse of a child? What is society's responsibility for protecting children or is this a "private matter?" In what ways can individual citizens advocate for improvement in systems that care for children who have been abused or neglected? Explain
People are the products of their environment such as, parenting, education, employment, culture, race, religion, socio-economic factors etc. This would mean that children would be largely impacted by their environment, positively or negatively. Firstly, if the child doesn’t grow with both the biological parents, the chances are more that either the child undergo physical or sexual abuse. Secondly, if one of the parents is addicted to drugs or alcohol, it would make the life difficult for the child because the parents would engage in quarrels and may not care for the children. Thirdly, an unhealthy neighborhood would lead children to join gangs or engage in unhealthy behaviours that would lead them to be the victims of abuse. This would mean that children who are not protective at their homes would be the victims of the streets. Finally, children who are physically challenged or disabled would be the victims of abuse due to the unavailability of parents or caregivers around them always. Children are the future citizens of a country thus, developing them in the right way to lead a better life by contributing to themselves and the country is the primary responsibility of a country. So, the government should intervene in any abuse as if it’s a violation of the national security or a threat to a national treasure. Besides, children come to this world through their parents and they deserve a decent and safe life free from any abuse or threats.
