Why do penguins' beaks look different than terns'?
The terns are birds of open habitats that typically breed in noisy colonies and lay their eggs on bare ground with little or no nest material. Like all birds a penguin has a bill or beak.Inside the bill there are spiky spines pointed towards the throat that help in swallowing living food. The Common Terns you're hearing have long, pointed bills they use to catch small fish. Penguins use their beak to carry rocks to the nesting site and to arrange them into a raised structure (their nest) that will keep the eggs and chicks from either rolling away, or getting wet when rivulets of water form as nearby snow banks melt. Curved bill and the cutting edge is sharp which allows a penguin to hold and kill a slimy fish. Due to above reasons and different adaptation of the birds, they both have different beaks.
