The U.S. had reasons to engage with imperialism. We realized we required territory beyond our boundaries to be a world power that we could control. All the nations with world power had colonies beyond their boundaries. We required to get colonies if we wished to be seen the same way as the other world forces. As other nations had already taken most of the territory available for colonization, the possibilities to obtain colonies were dwindling.

We would have financial and political benefits to obtaining colonies. We could get cheaper raw materials from the colonies if we had colonies than we could if we purchased them from other nations. We would also have a place to sell our manufactured products in our sectors. Our navy would have areas around the globe to refuel and resupply our vessels by having colonies. In the event of war, these colonies could be used as a basis for assault. By having these colonies, protecting our trade would be simpler for our navy. We knew that world power countries must be able to protect their trade.

There were individuals who thought that spreading our way of life around the globe was our responsibility. They thought now that Manifest Destiny's idea should be spread beyond our boundaries. These individuals thought that it was our duty to spread our superior manner of life and culture throughout the globe to other individuals. We seized that chance when we saw an opening to obtain colonies by going to war with Spain. We thought that the Spanish mistreatment of Cubans was over-exaggerated tales. We jumped to findings that Spain was liable for the U.S.S. Maine explosion. We acquired colonies as a consequence of the Spanish-American War, became an imperial power, and took our place as a world power
