Solutions

Expert Solution

The nurse should report levels of BUN to healthcare provider as these values are higher then expected for second trimester.

Other values are in normal range.

Moreover as the patient is having type 1 diabetes , renal functions need constant monitoring as they can be challenged due to secondary involvement of kidneys in diabetes.

BUN (blood urea nitrogen)

A diagnostic tool for kidney function.

The reference value of BUN in various trimesters is as follows-

  • First trimester of Pregnancy : 7 to 12 mg/dL
  • Second trimester of Pregnancy : 3 to 13 mg/dL
  • Third trimester of Pregnancy: 3 to 11 mg/dL
  • Non Pregnant: 7 to 20 mg/dL

Platelet Count

Normal range of platelet count in different trimesters are-

  • First trimester of Pregnancy : 174000-391000/mm3
  • Second trimester of Pregnancy : 155000-409000/mm3
  • Third trimester of Pregnancy: 146000-429000/mm3

Hemoglobin A1C

The HbA1c test measures glycated haemoglobin ( a molecule within red blood cells that naturally bonds with glucose ) to get average blood glucose over the past 8-12 weeks

Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is an indicator used to evaluate the blood glucose control in diabetes mellitus (DM)

First trimester of pregnancy-4-6%

Second trimester of pregnancy- 4-6%

Third trimester of pregnancy - 4-7%

Non pregnant women -4.7-6.3%

HAEMATOCRIT LEVELS ( Hct)

These values measure Packed cell volume

First trimester of pregnancy- 31-41%

Second trimester of pregnancy- 30-39%

Third trimester of pregnancy - 28-40%
