What is the role of the federal government in defining how we do cybersecurity work? Where does this seem to be headed? What are the trends?
Answer)
Cybersecurity is the term which mentions the protection of the
Internet-enabled and connected system which can be software,
hardware, etc.
Threats to the cybersecurity for infrastructures can be insider
threats as well as outsider threats. The threats can be individual
hackers, politically motivated hacktivists, criminal enterprises
and also unfriendly nations who have interested in disrupting the
services to the critical infrastructures and also to compromise the
cybersecurity of the infrastructures, and also there can be other
types of threats.
To handle all these threats we have to handle cybersecurity well for the critical infrastructures and be prepared for the worse in the age of Information Technology. Thus the role of the federal government is to centrally identifying and classifying the cybersecurity threats and issues and also the laws of the land and the Internet in terms of cybersecurity and its violation and protection under those laws.
The current trends seem to be headed in the right direction aggressively under the cybersecurity laws and methods which are implemented for the protection of the data and information of the businesses, governments and also private data of people. The current trends can be seen as the HIPAA which is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 which safeguards data privacy and security of medical information.
