ANS- According to Rogers, there are three components of successful psychotherapy and they are Empathy, Congruence and unconditional positive regard.
1. Empathy- Therapists try to develop an understanding that is empathic and to know about the feelings and thoughts of their client. When a therapist understands the thoughts of the client and restates the thoughts, the client is able to extract the meaning of the experiences he had.
2. Congruence- Therapists strive for congruence: being self aware, to be genuine, to be authentic in the communications having with the client.
3. Unconditional Positive Regard- Therapists show compassion, they show acceptance. They try to be nonjudgmental and therapists acceptance is not based on the client's actions.
Existential therapy shares a belief that people have the inclination for self-awareness and preference. People have an innate capacity of effective self-direction. Therapists help the client to find the philosophical meaning at the time of anxiety and help them to think with authenticity and to act responsibly.
