. Compare and contrast nuclear and extended families in terms of their differences in privacy, rules, and authority. Would one type be more "child friendly" than the other? If so, how? How would the two types of families manage resources, such as income, room allocation or space, and distribution of chores? What aspects of your development would be more influenced by the type of family you grew up in?
Nuclear family consists of the parents and their biological children without any other members of the family such as grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins etc. Extended family on the other hand live as a joint family where many people with different relationships such as parents, children, grandparents, uncle, aunt, heir children would all live together. When it comes to nuclear families, resources are generated and used only for the members in the family but in extended families, the elder would manage the income and expenditure and no matter how much one earns, all would get the same treatment and benefits. Children in the extended families would get more moral support and attention compared to the nuclear family because of the number of people present in this type of family. In nuclear family, both the parents work thus, children would be left unattended most of the time. Although children get more economic resources and facilities in nuclear families, children in the extended families would get more help, motivation and guidance. Extended families would offer more emotional and social support to the children thus shaping their personality in a more positive way but they would grow very dependent. Children in the nuclear family would have more independency but would also get disappointed very soon. Their resilience would be very less when faced with difficult situations.
