Precautionary Principle :-
When conducting an activity harms the human health and races threats to the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully stablished scientifically. This is known as the precautionary principle. It suggest proponent of an activity should bear the burden of proof. The public should not be the burden of proof. The process of applying this principle should include examination of full range of alternative including no action and the process should be democratic, well informed and open which must include affected parties .
Origin :-
The origin of precautionary principle was developed in the year 1992 Earth Summit where the Principle 15 was adopted which advocated the widespread international application of the precautionary principle.
Central Components of Precautionary Principle :-
1) it involves setting up of health indicators .
2) It involves taking up of Preventive actions in case of an uncertainty.
3) It involves shifting the burden of responsibility to the person who has carried out that activity which has harmed the environment.
4) It involves exploring alternative for the harmful actions .
5) It involves increasing public participation which leads to transparency of Information and environmental justice.
Examples of Precautionary Principle :-
1) While setting up any industry precautions should be taken to care for problems of global warming, air pollution, disposal method of untreated water .
2) While the government supports development , but they must take care about excessive depletion of non renewable resources, loss of species due to cutting of forests etc
3) The farmers while growing the crops should ensure food safety in terms of excessive use of pesticides, harmful effects of genetically modified crops .
4) While supporting Advancement of technology , factors like harmful rays of tower should be considered.
5) The supporters of Urbanization must take into consideration factors like population explosion, global warming, excessive noise pollution and air pollution , excess pressure on natural resources etc .
