1.Adult day care programs began more like a social model; however, over time, they have developed as a medical model. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
Yes, I do agree that Adult day care programs began more like a social model; however, over time, they have developed as a medical model.
Earlier the concept of adult day care arised to take care of adults who were feeling isolated at home. Hence to provide a feeling of social accompaniment, it became a Social Model.
But as days went people with medical problems were brought to the setup to be taken care of. Hence it became a Medical model too.
2. Adult day care is being described as gap filler between institutional and non-institutional care:
Yes, we do agree that these days adult day care is being described as gap filler between institutional and non-institutional care. The reason being, institutional settings doesnot provide a short term rehabilitation and level of care at non institutional settings lack very much of personal attention. Hence we see a huge gap. And this gap is filled by the Adult Day Care setup.
3.What population comprises the largest group receiving care in adult day care programs? Why?
The largest age group receiving care in adult day care are the people of the age 65 years and more.
The reson being, because of their older age, they get socially isolated from other groups and hence families prefer to put them in adult day care so that they get a personal care.
4. Do you think receiving patients with more medical problems has impacted adult day care services? Why? How has this effected staffing?
Yes, receiving patients with more medical problems has impacted adult day care services.
This is becasue earlier the adult day care was meant to provide a set up where the adults can sit till their children or other member in the family returned from work to pick them. But as many older people with medical problems were brought to this center, the staffing pattern differed as more attention was required for the individuals with more health problems. Hence more staffs were required to take care of people with medical problems.
