No two airport terminals are alike. Briefly describe the development of airport terminals from the early days of commercial aviation to present day terminal design concepts. Be sure to include gates, passenger movement and ground transportation in your response.
21st century is marked by technology advancements. technology is proving to be a boon for all industries. Aviation industry has been able to enhance its customer responsiveness and accuracy with the help of technology integration. Some of the ways in which technology has evolved the different aspects of commercial aviation are as follows:
· Terminal designs earlier used to be quite unplanned. With time, terminal design facilitates the efficient utilization of all available resources.
· Terminal configurations have become more centralized, facilitating the mobility of customers. use of travellators, escalators as well as aero terminals have reduced the boarding time
· Earlier the security screening was quite manual and time consuming. With usage of sensors and technical screening devices, the overall efficiency of screening has increased manifold and can be done quite quickly
· In olden days, ground staff was not provided with much equipments, hence they had to exert physical pressure to facilitate the procedure of a plane’s landing and passengers’ embarking and disembarking. However with the integration of technology, commercial aviation sector has come up with several interventions which have made this process of landing and embarking-disembarking quite smooth
