Suppose you've been asked to provide a "Top 5" list for families that includes suggestions or "things they need to know" to improve/enhance communication in their family. Drawing on the information from this class, create your bullet point list of "Top 5 Tips" - BE SURE TO INCLUDE ALL REQUIRED ELEMENTS: With each recommendation, provide a "rationale" for WHY families should consider this element Please ensure that the recommendations apply concepts and are not "common sense" recommendations that families would already know. For example, don't simply state "Listen to one another" - offer suggestions for enhancing listening, apply concepts to inform them of the "type" of listening they need to employ, and so forth. (not really Psychology but it's the closest subject)
One meal per day – Families need to eat one meal together thus keeping everyone together for a chit chat. This will enable meaningful conversation regarding their day today activities. This will also help people get enough suggestions regarding each one’s activities and the parents can discuss their financial status, social functioning and educational expectations.
Empathetic Listening – One of the most important thing about having meaningful conversation is about listening empathetically without any assumptions. Most of the time, family members approach whoever listens to them in the family.
Mutual Help – Helping each other in times of need will increase the bond between family members and thus increase the conversation. It would also help the members understand each other’s’ needs and act accordingly to reduce their needs or facilitate others’ needs.
Informing about whereabouts – Informing the family members about one’s whereabouts will increase the trust of the family members and help them resolve issues if one of the member is at risk outside the house, if not it would create suspicion and thus spoil the chances of further communication. This will weaken the personal touch and reduce the conversation.
Reducing gadget usage while at home – One of the most important problems the modern families face is the increased use of gadgets. This prevents members from having meaningful conversations with each other. The eye contact and respect is long gone. It would be bui;t only when family members reduce the gadget use.
