1). The cardiogenic shock typically occurs as a consequence of
cardiac ischemia, myocardial infarction (MI), ventricular septal
defect, septic shock with myocardial depression, right ventricular
and left ventricular failure.
Nursing interventions for cardiogenic shock:
- The affected patient should be kept in the warm
environment
- Legs must be in the elevated position to increase the venous
return
- In case of bleeding, measures to stop hemorrhage must be
considered
- Good ventilation and airway should be provided to the
patient
- Should not be administered any oral drugs
- Head must be tilted to avoid the aspiration of gastric
contents
- Patients at risk of cardiogenic shock must be identified and
oxygenation of the heart tissue must be improved
- The ECG monitoring equipment functioning must be assessed,
similarly the arterial lines also, any changes observed must be
recorded and reported
- The patient's comfort can be enhanced by administering the
medications prescribed
- The IV fluid administration should be carefully monitored
