identify the advantages/disadvantages to children who are either not exposed to language or exposed to multiple languages. Is there any information that says children not exposed to language will be unable to communicate? Are children exposed to multiple languages more intelligent? What is most beneficial for language development? Do deaf children or children of the deaf learn how to communicate?
One of the most important developmental milestones is language development from babbling sounds to meaningful utterances. Although all the children develop language naturally, it's the caretakers frequent interaction that would speed up language learning. Children learn language by listening and later they imitate and start speaking. So, children need a model to imitate language and to be corrected. It's true that language is the weapon with which one would accumulate knowledge, as all the information that would lead to knowledge is encoded in language and not in sign languages. So, one benefit of learning multiple language is that it would expose one to various information that one could convert as knowledge. Intelligence is not genetic but it's the transformation of knowledge into relevant skills. Thinking happens in the mind and language is only a medium that is offered to exchange the thoughts. So, deaf children are as intelligent or more intelligent as they would possess an extra sense to compensate for their loss. Today, the evolution of sign languages and technological advancements have made it possible for the deaf children to come out with excellent idea and innovation.
