National Health Insurance is a system of health insurance that assures the national population against the cost of the health care.It may be run by public sector private sector or the combination of these two.Funding system varies according to the country and the programme.In some countries the funding is done with the general taxation.And in some countries the funding is done by legislation requiring compulsory contributions to competing insurance funds.These funds has to provide minimum standard for the coverage and the discriminations are not allowed in terms of money charged,age of the patient and their previous health condition.There are Other countries are largely funded by contributions by employers and employees to sickness funds. With these programs, funds come from neither the government nor direct private payments.In addition to direct medical costs, some national insurance plans also provide compensation for loss of work due to ill-health, or may be part of wider social insurance plans covering things such as pensions, unemployment, occupational retraining, and financial support for students.National health insurance is not equivalent to the government-run or government-financed health care, but is usually established by national legislation.Germany has the world's oldest national health insurance sytem.It is also known as statutory health insurance .
