Solutions

Expert Solution

Snakes are carnivorous reptiles found in wide areas through out the world. over 2900 species are found in the world. There are two types of snakes venomous and non venom.

1.NON VENOMOUS SNAKES

They are the snakes which does not produce venom. They either swallowed or constrict the prey.

Examples include ; python, rough green snake, bull snake etc

2. VENOMOUS SNAKES

These types produce venom to kill prey. This venom are also a kind of  self defect.

Examples ; cobra, viper etc

Some of the venoms are deadliest for human beings. Venoms are secreated like saliva from a gland called fangs. These venoms also help in breakdown of complex food into simpler forms.

According to taxonamy venomus snakes are classified into 3 families ;- elapids, viperids, colubrids

CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF VENOMOUS SNAKES

1.Eliptical pupil

2. Rttling of tail

3.Broad and triangular head

4.Heat sensing pits

KILLER SNAKE VENOM

Venoms are types of proteins. Vnoms are classfied into 3 based on their effects.

HEMOTOXIN

This kind of venom will targets prey's red blood cells. hemotoxin will destroy blood vessels.after biting person will face internal and external bleedings.hemotoxin also reslt in blood coagulation.

eg;- gaboon viper

CYTOTOXIN

cytotoxin will destroys cells. they result in tissue collapse and cause death. each type will affects the cells of particular intenal organs. some affect the cardiac muscle tissue and cause heart attack.

eg;- rattle snake

NEUROTOXIN

it affects nervous system. usually effect of neurotoxin is of two types, first through breaking the nerve impulse result in paralyzing of body, lack of respiration result in death. second through sudden collpase of nervous system eventually lead to death

eg;- cobra

inland taian, black mambia, eastern brown snakes etc are belongs to deadlist snakes in the world.

ANTIVENOMS

It is a type of immunoglobulin used against venom toxin. these antivenoms are produced from the venoms itself. venoms are collected from snakes and injected to domestic animals. antibodies produced inside them are collected and purified used as antivenom.

Spitting cobras can defend themselves by squeezing muscles around their venom glands to squirt venom at an attacker. Suppose a spitting cobra rears up to a height of 0.400 m above the ground and launches venom at 4.00 m/s, directed 59.0° above the horizon. Neglecting air resistance, find the horizontal distance (in m) traveled by the venom before it hits the ground.

Apamine is a small monomeric peptide toxin present in the venom of the honeybee. It has the sequence: CNCKAPETALCARRCQQH A It is known that apamine does NOT react with iodoacetate. How many disulfide bonds are present? B Suppose trypsin cleavage gave two peptides. Where is (are) the S-S bond(s)? (Hints: If cut by trypsin, but still held together by a disulfide bond, count it as a single peptide. Also, do not count a single amino acid as a “peptide.”) PLEASE...

f venom evolved in a lizard ancestor of snakes, and was subsequently lost in many descendants, which is a plausible hypothesis for the loss of venom? Venomous snakes created an inbalance in the natural order, and thus, many snakes lost it for the good of the species. Venom is metabolically costly to produce, and when other methods of killing prey (ie., constriction) are available, venom was lost to save energy. Venom has no real adaptive funciton, and mostly exists to...

The venom of the Eastern diamondback rattler and the Indian cobra contains phospholipase A2, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of fatty acids at the C-2 position of glycerophospholipids. The phospholipid breakdown product of this reaction is lysolecithin (lecithin is phosphatidylcholine). At high concentrations, this and other lysophospholipids act as detergents, dissolving the membranes of erythrocytes and lysing the cells. Extensive hemolysis may be life-threatening. (a) All detergents are amphipathic. What are the hydrophilic and hydrophobic portions of lysolecithin? (b) The pain...

Eastern diamondback rattlesnake venom contains high levles of Phospholipase A2, this catalyzes the breakdown of the second of the three (C-2 position) lipid groups of glycerophospholipids. Though the high levels of phospholipase A2 in venom can be deadly, this enzyme is necessary for a variety of normal metabolic processes. What problem(s) does excess of this enzyme cause, by hydrolyzing these bonds? And what are the normal metabolic processes that phospholipase A2 is used for?
