Bob just had his annual physical and agreed with his doctor that he needs to lose weight and eat a healthier diet. On the way home, he stopped at the drive-through and got a double bacon cheeseburger and deep-fried cheese curds. Bob is experiencing cognitive dissonance, what can he do?

Solutions

Expert Solution

He can do these things in order to resolve with cognitive dissonance-

A. Changing behaviour- change of behaviour can lead to reduction of the cognitive dissonance to a large extent as changing relieves cognitive dissonance and bring their action in harmony

B. Change of the beliefs- change of beliefs can also lead to reduction in the cognitive dissonance as when the person will be starting to see that there is a another belief which is existing apart from what he thinks, then will be trying to adjust to the realities of life.

C. Not try to justify your behaviour and belief each time because they are not always correct as smokers will be smoking more as he believes that it does not cause cancer and eventually it does, so he will have to be practical and looked upon the rationality.
